Sex and the City 2 Review

Another successful Sex and the City movie!

I woke up Thursday morning saying, “today is the day!” I upped the ante on my morning routine because today was special. Today was Sex and the City 2 Day! I took my time doing my hair and makeup – making sure my hair looked Carrie-esque. I put on my new floral skirt, black tank and matching accessories only to be finished with my Aldo wedges – sadly, not Jimmy Choo or Manolo Blahniks. Off to work I went. I wasn’t on 5th avenue in NYC, but Parmer Lane in the ATX – but a girl can pretend, right?

The girls at work and I had pre-scheduled this marvelous day with drinks and the movie. We excitedly finished the workday and headed to grab a few drinks before the premiere. Luckily, we pre-purchased our tickets weeks in advance and our lovely friends got there early to save us seats. We walked the red carpet right into auditorium 8. I had never seen so many women dressed up for a movie. Women were in LBD’s (little black dresses), stilettos and strutting very fabulous bling. My thoughts were confirmed, today was the day for Sex and the City 2!

SATC 2 opens (the entire theater claps) with Carrie reminiscing about her first time in the city and when she met the other girls. The scene flashes back from the women wearing current trends to them in their 80’s styles. We all got a chuckle from Carrie’s flash-dance outfit and big fluff of hair, Miranda’s weird haircut and Samantha’s super-tight tights and animal print accessories. The movie progresses with many “oohs” and “awes” at the women’s shoes and clothes, with a little “what is that crown thing she’s wearing?”

Aside from the fashion, glitz and glamour – the movie tells a story of each of the women’s problems they now face: Carrie is getting used to living with Big, Charlotte now has two children and a very bra-less nanny, Miranda is getting a hand in her face every time she speaks up at work and Samantha is swallowing more than the usual amount of pills. They are in desperate need of a break. So, off to Abu Dhabi they go –courtesy of Samantha. There they encounter old loves and finally face how they are really feeling. In a far off land, they find themselves again and realize what they want and don't want in their lives. The movie ends happily and reaffirms that life is not always black and white, but full of color – lots and lots of color.Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon in Sex and the City 2

Sex and the City 2 delivers all of the fashion and glamor we've come to expect, but SATC 2 also successfully tells the story of the four women and how they deal with problems in a way we can all relate to. I’d think, “Oh that’s what my best friend is going through!” or “OMG, I hate when my boyfriend does that too!” Having followed Carrie’s quest for love from the beginnings of Sex and the City, it was fun to see her find her place in a life with Big – Sparkle and all. Ladies, this is definitely a movie to watch with your girlfriends, avoid bringing a boyfriend or husband - most guys won’t understand.

Bravo to another successful Sex and the City movie!
