Zack Galifianakis’s career started out with a bang. He was the shining sidekick in The Hangover, arguably the best and most successful comedy ever created. His comedic banter and “special” persona pushed the films comedy factor over the edge. The problem for Galifianakis, however, lies in where the question of where the heck he’s going from there.
The actor recently starred in It’s Kind of a Funny Story, a film about a suicidal teen’s experience at a mental hospital. Despite a strong cast and storyline audiences were disappointed with the lack of laughs in the film. The questions is, will Zack be able to break out of his goofy stereotype and become a serious household name? Fellow stupid humor stars such as Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell have been two of the few to commit such a feat, but the phenomenon is rare.
Galifianakis’ latest project, Due Date, in theaters now, marks Zack’s first lead in a film. Will headlining another star driven comedy plummet Zack into bigger and better projects? Or will another comedy cement his place in Hollywood?
