Practical Magic 2

Twenty-eight years later, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as Sally and Gillian Owens. The family curse is still eating people alive, and now Sally’s grown daughters — Joey King and Maisie Williams — have powers of their own. Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are back as the aunts; Lee Pace and Xolo Maridueña join the coven. Bier adapts Alice Hoffman’s The Book of Magic. This is the weekend’s date-night / girls-night event, even if early reviews are mixed.
The Uprising

Andrew Garfield plays a ploughman who snaps under King Richard II’s taxes and helps spark the 1381 Peasants’ Revolt — the uprising that fed the Robin Hood legend. Greengrass (Captain Phillips, the Bourne films) shoots it handheld and muddy, with Jamie Bell, Thomasin McKenzie, Tom Hollander, Jonny Lee Miller, and Katherine Waterston in the mix. Jason Blum produced. If you want the “serious” movie of the weekend, this is it.

Alan Ritchson is Hank, a former soldier turned high-end courier with three hours to get a liver to a dying kid. Owen Wilson is the talkative handler riding shotgun. A cartel wants the organ for the black market. Angel Studios frames it as an action-comedy chase across Australia — Midnight Run energy with Reacher muscle. Good popcorn if The Uprising feels too grim.
Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger

Liam and Noel Gallagher’s 2025 reunion tour, with rehearsal, backstage, and onstage access plus their first joint interviews in more than 20 years. Created by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight. Theatrical/IMAX first, then Disney+ and Hulu later. If you were in those stadiums — or wish you were — this is the concert film of the weekend.
The Fix
In theaters Friday, September 11 · R · Directed by Guy Moshe
Formerly titled Hotel Tehran. After a botched Afghanistan mission, Zachary Levi’s CIA operator follows a lead from mentor Liam Neeson: $25 million hidden in a Tehran hotel wall since 1981. The “rescue” is a heist, and the money isn’t what they find. Titus Welliver and Quincy Isaiah co-star. Straight-ahead adult action for the Neeson crowd.

Hope (opened Wednesday, Sept. 9) — Na Hong-jin (The Wailing) drops a 2-hour-40-minute creature/sci-fi freakout in a Korean village near the DMZ. Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Jung Ho-yeon lead; Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Russell turn up as something not human. Neon. Call My Agent! The Movie (Netflix, Thursday Sept. 10) — The French talent-agency ensemble is back. Andréa Martel is directing her first feature five years after ASK shut down.
Go Team! (Netflix, Friday Sept. 11) — A Spanish cheese company’s team-building retreat collapses when the layoff list leaks.
The Passion of the Christ (4K remaster, Thursday Sept. 10, limited/Fathom) — One-week return if that’s your weekend.
Still packing theaters
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still No. 1. The Odyssey and Coyote vs. Acme are the other holdovers eating screens. By Any Means and Insidious: Out of the Further are hanging around from last week. New releases are competing with those, not an empty multiplex.
