Recently deemed one of Entertainment Weekly’s Top 10 to Watch in 2010, it looks like this may be Jay Baruchel’s year. The 27 year old Montreal native has played a significant amount of supporting roles including Norah’s sleezy boyfriend in Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and amateur actor, Kevin Sandusky, in the popular Tropic Thunder. Baruchel has also entertained us in the comedies Knocked Up and Night at The Museum, but his work isn’t all about laughs. His first notable role, in Clint Eastwood’s Oscar Winning Million Dollar Baby, is a nice foundation to help keep him out of the cliché comedy actor stereotype.
This year Baruchel has scored his first lead role in the movie She’s Out of My League, which hopes to live up to the classic nerd meets hot girl comedies of Knocked Up and Superbad. He’s also the voice of hiccup in the new animated film How to Train Your Dragon, out March 26, and has taken a role next to Nicholas Cage in the summer Disney film The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
What do you think? Will Jay be able to make his mark on multiple film genres and wow us with his talent or will he fall flat and prove to be less than star material?
