Overboard
Overboard is a lighthearted romantic comedy that flips the classic “rich vs. working class” dynamic into a story about mistaken identity, unexpected responsibility, and personal growth. A remake of the 1987 film of the same name, this version follows a wealthy, spoiled heir named Leonardo who lives a life of luxury with little regard for others. His world turns upside down after a boating accident leaves him with amnesia.
Meanwhile, Kate, a hardworking single mother struggling to support her family, sees an unexpected opportunity when Leonardo loses his memory. Played by Anna Faris, Kate decides to convince him that he is actually her husband and puts him to work to help her manage the challenges of daily life. What begins as deception slowly transforms into an unusual but heartfelt domestic arrangement, as Leonardo—played by Eugenio Derbez—starts to adapt to a completely different way of living.
As Leonardo adjusts to manual labor, responsibility, and family life for the first time, the film explores themes of identity and change beneath its comedic surface. The humor comes from culture clashes, personality differences, and the absurdity of Leonardo trying to survive in a world far removed from his privileged upbringing. Over time, however, both characters begin to grow in ways they never expected, leading to genuine emotional connections that challenge their original motivations.
The film balances slapstick comedy with a softer romantic arc, showing how unexpected circumstances can force people to reconsider who they are and what really matters in life.
